Featuring 10 tracks – 8 lovingly reworked songs from the 2021 debut Penfriend album plus two surprises! – "Monstrous Exotic" looks back in deep contemplation at a period when we were all trying to keep our eyes on the road ahead.

I first reworked one of my own songs in 2009. Immediately after completing my first She Makes War album "Disarm", I booked extra studio time for b-sides. Ah, b-sides!

I found reimagining "Olympian" such a rewarding experience that I decided to do it again in 2015, creating the 5-track "Disarm:15" EP. Then, in 2019, transitioning from She Makes War to Penfriend, my 8-track "And Peace" collection was a tender tribute to some of my most formative years.

I think of songs as ideas, and recordings as snapshots. From demo to fully fledged production to solo live rendition, the presentation can change wildly. And over the years, the meaning of a song can shift even while the lyrics stay the same. Taking some time to look back at the tumultuous, at-times-terrifying years I wrote, recorded and released "Exotic Monsters" (2019-2021), while celebrating the people who supported the launch of my solo project and the songs themselves feels like a gift.
